Albuquerque to Amarillo

Another 300-odd miles covered on Route 66 today, between New Mexico and Texas and, unlike the last couple of days it was hot hot hot!

Therefore Christopher was glad of his sombrero when we got to Tucumcari.

We also made it to the midpoint of Route 66 in the early afternoon, 1139 miles to either end, and celebrated with the Midway Diner's famous chocolate chip pie! Mmmm....pie....

Just before Amarillo (yes, we played the song many times and, thanks to cruise control, also did the arm-swinging dance) we stopped at the Cadillac Ranch, although we didn't bring any spray paint to leave our "tag" as the kids say.

We had a quick dip in the pool at our hotel before heading out for dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch - home of the 72oz steak in under an hour challenge. We didn't attempt the challenge; we may be stupid but we're not fools!, and instead enjoyed steaks about 10% of the size of the 72oz monster.
